Bernstein Display

  • Bernstein Display has a 100+ years history, providing a range of furniture, mannequins, forms, and decorative accessories to the visual industry and design world. The idea for this showroom is from the celebration of both ethnic and body diversity, complemented by unique metal finishes and natural woven materials, set the stage in a Moroccan inspired garden, enhanced with architectural backdrops in “Classic Blue,” the Pantone Color of the Year. You can check out their website below.

I was hired on as a freelance production assistant by the creative director of Bernstein, Glenn Sokoli. He designed the whole concept and build of the project. He, a group of production assistants and I worked together to build all the aspects of the showroom. I personally worked on painting the walls, creating the plants, cutting lumber, and creating a large scale frame for the mural. Painting the walls was an involved process due to the distinct texture we wanted. Using sponges and thinned paint we layered the paint on to create a gradation on all of the walls. The plants were created by putting together spray foam, faux plants, rocks, and a clay pot. The plant was fixed in with the spray foam and then had the rocks stacked on top to create the final plant. The large frame involved cutting up some 2x4s and then joining them to create a frame using nails and wood glue. We then stretched the mural over the frame and stood it up. We then attached the molding and doors to add the dimension to the scene. The full showroom is up for display through Fall 2020.
